The Koi Boys Announce First Show

14 October 2016 - 0 Comments

The Koi Boys will play their first New Zealand concert on Friday 18th November at Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral. The New Zealand born, Gold Coast based group are set to release their debut album Meant To Be on Friday October 21st, and the show will be New Zealand’s first chance to see them live in action.

The group rose to prominence after featuring on the TV show The Voice Australia. Following their recent signing with Universal Music Australia, their new album is due for release on Friday 21st October and is a collection of nine genre spanning covers and three original songs written by the trio.

The first single and video to be lifted from Meant To Be is a big bold cover of the 1962 soulful Cry To Meoriginally recorded by Solomon Burke then given new life in 1987 in the motion picture Dirty Dancing.

Working with producer Robert Conley (Montaigne, Tina Arena, The Delta Riggs, Darren Hayes, Thelma Plum) Meant To Beticks off Motown, funk, RnB, pop and more with a surprising cabaret-style cover of The Weeknd’s The Hills, a smooth, Latin rendition of ‘Hotline Bling’ by Drake and of course, Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream) the song which made the four chairs turn around on The Voice Australia

The highly anticipated release sees the Koi Boys first foray into songwriting. ‘Yes, a sweet love song written by Kevin; Angels Have to Fly, a stunning reggae track written by Nuz after his cousin died from epilepsy and Meant To Be (Waiata’s Song) a heartstring-pulling ballad written by Danny with each song begun individually then together collaborating at the end.

For almost a decade, the charismatic all-singing, all-dancing, all-harmonising Koi Boys, have been crooning, dancing and entertaining as a collective at their “Sunday Session” at a Gold Coast venue. Ranging from Motown classics through to current pop hits at Koi Dining and Lounge Bar, the live session has become so popular that shows sell out weeks in advance.

Meant To Be is a menagerie of songs with one ambition: to entertain, because that is the one truth that lives at the heart of The Koi Boys. Don't miss your opportunity to see the Koi Boys live for the first time in New Zealand.
