Tuis Calling All NZ Musicians

25 May 2015 - 0 Comments

It’s that time of year again to celebrate all that’s great about Kiwi music – nominations for the country’s biggest night in music officially open today (25 May).

This year marks the 50thanniversary of the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, which take place in November at Auckland’s Vector Arena.

Kiwi music has grown hugely during the past 50 years with New Zealand artists going from strength to strength in building recognition and popularity both here and abroad says Recorded Music NZ CEO Damian Vaughan.

“And this year is no exception. For 50 years the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards has been the ultimate celebration of the sheer talent and hard work local musicians put in to their art. And every year the bar is raised even higher,” Vaughan says

“Looking at the huge success local artists enjoyed during the past 12 months – both here and abroad and across all genres – we’re expecting a fantastic finalist line-up in 2015.”

Nomination requirements can be found at http://www.nzmusicawards.co.nz/. Unless otherwise specified, awards are open to New Zealand artists who have had recordings commercially released between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015. Nominations stay open until 5pm on Monday 6 July.

Categories in 2015 are Album and Single of the year, Best Group, Best Male and Female Solo Artists, Breakthrough Artist, Best Music Video, Best Maori, Rock, Urban / Hip Hop, Electronica, Roots, Pop, Alternative, Best Worship album and Classical albums. There are also technical award categories of Best Producer, Best Engineer & Best Album Cover.

The awards finalists – together with the Technical Award winners – are being announced at the Finalists Announcement and Technical Awards presentation in October. The announcement of the 2015 Legacy Award recipient and New Zealand Music Hall of Fame inductee – presented last year to Supergroove – is also being made at that time.

Other Tuis presented during the year include those for best albums in Children’s, Country, Folk, Jazz and Pacific music. The winners of those categories are acknowledged at the 2015 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards ceremony.
