Music News - Creative Auckland has space to play at Spark Lab

Spark has announced that it is opening a new innovation and ideas workshop in Auckland’s Britomart. The purpose-built space, located in a floor of the historic Seafarers Building, will be open to everyone and will allow the community to get involved in the creation of new ideas, experiences, products and art.

Lab will embody the newly rebranded company’s “Never Stop
Starting” philosophy.
“The past few years has seen an explosion of innovation and the arts in
Auckland. Spark Lab is for the people leading that movement. We want to give
them room to explore, create, and mentor those talented young people who are
just starting out.”
Each month Spark Labwill focus on a specific discipline with a series of curated events that
will see leading figures
giving inspirational talks, holding workshops, hosting seminars and running
hack sessions.
The opening month will focus on music, with 20 curated events planned
throughout November.
The music line-up ranges from show & tells by Fat Freddy’s Drop Founder DJ Fitchie and hip hop star Che
Fu to songwriting workshops, performances, and talks from local
heavy hitters including Lorde’s
manager Scott
McLaughlin and major record label heads.
Spark believes this up-close and personal access to mentors will be of huge
benefit to young New Zealanders starting out in industries like fashion or
film-making.
Quin emphasised that participation is not limited to industry newcomers or
Spark customers. “This is about bringing people together, so while we may have a few
customer-only events, for the most part Spark Lab will be open to everyone”
In upcoming months Spark
Lab will be focusing on fashion, art, technology, design,
photography, film making and architecture.
Spark Labis itself the result of a collaboration between Spark and Shine Limited.
