Music News - No place like Splore – a fresh take on music, art and performance

Splore is welcoming TrinityRoots to the 2015 festival staged at Tapapkanga Park on 20-22 February 2015. After last playing the festival in 2004 at the Waharau site TrinityRoots will make a welcome return. Recognised as the iconic Home, Land and Sea group, TrinityRoots also fits with the festival theme of ‘home’. The band will debut songs from its third studio album which is expected to be released early next year.
Exciting Toronto beat-maker, Lunice, will feature his much anticipated debut album at Splore. Basement Jaxx lead singer Sharlene Hector will appear in a new collaboration with local DJ and Producer Jason Eli.
Young, up and coming local producers Race Banyon and Samuel Truth are on the bill along with party bands Labretta Suede and the Motel 6, The Hipstamatics and the Wellington Sea Shanty Band.
Also announced today on the Splore line up are New Zealand DJ/Producers Hudge, Kev Fresh, Dan Aux, Ria, KXVGXN, Play DJ’s, Dastardly Bounder and Logan Baker.
Already announced is one of the UK’s most in-demand live acts, The Correspondents. London hip hop legend Rodney P and Italian swing DJ Dr Cat.
Splore will have more headline international acts and local acts to announce in October.
The underlying concept of the Splore theme ‘home’ is celebrating at Splore’s home by the sea, reuniting with old mates, meeting new friends, dancing in the sunshine and sea and partying your pants off at Aotearoa’s finest summer festival.
“We’re throwing the ultimate house party on Saturday night” says John Minty, Splore Festival Director. “It means the whole festival with be themed around Splore being your home away from home.”
Splore continues on its mission to become the first zero waste festival. The last event diverted 73 percent of waste from landfill, reduced cars on site by 25 percent through the car pooling initiative, became the first festival to receive Conscious Consumer accreditation and introduced a reusable cup. Splore has set the bench mark in New Zealand for sustainable festivals.
“Our audience embrace our sustainable credentials and it also makes the festival vibe that much better when everyone is respecting the environment and there is no rubbish anywhere” says Minty.
