One Love 2010: Top Ranking

17 February 2010 - 0 Comments

"Nothing but sunshine, good sounds and good vibes"

Held between 11am and 7pm on Saturday the 6th of February (Waitangi Day) at the Hataitai Velodrome in Wellington, One Love 2010 Top Ranking - the 13th edition of Radio Active 89fm's yearly One Love outdoor music festival was as always - a success on several different levels.

Attended by an audience of roughly 10,000, punters enjoyed a diverse selection of folk, experimental music, traditional Maori instrumentation, reggae, dub, roots, ragga and dancehall.

Co-headlined by obvious big hitters Don McGlashan and Sola Rosa (feat Spikey Tee), Top Ranking also yielded surprise left-of-centre performances from Lyttleton Folk collective The Eastern, Ngä Taonga Puoro revivalist Richard Nunns and his experimental band The Etymologists – and a brilliant dancehall ragga jam session between Scottish reggae soundsystem Mungos Hi-Fi and a selection of singers such as locals Ras Stone and Silva and Sola Rosa's UK ex-pat lead vocalist Spikey Tee.

Music aside, One Love 2010 Top Ranking attendees were also treated to perfect Wellington summer weather and a relaxed incident free event – where everything ran smoothly.

With a family-friendly atmosphere in full effect and a wider range of musical diversity programmed into the line-up then ever before. One Love's emphasis on unity within diversity and reflecting our unique contemporary identity as citizens of Aotearoa, by way of here and the world remains focused and sailing straight-ahead towards many more years of successful events to come.

Thanks to Juice TV, Run The Red, Speights Summit, Red Bull and San Francisco Bathhouse for helping make One Love 2010 Top Ranking such a success and possible.
