Music News - UK Sunday Mega Paper praise NZ Music Label Lil Chief

20 May 2008 - 0 Comments

In a recent edition of the Sunday Times in the UK - the most widely read UK Sunday Paper - Lil Chief Records and New Zealand music got a 'big ups' with the half page article titled ”New Zealand, pop Mecca? A new wave of bands is set to expand your horizons”. Proposing a list of top 5 bands from New Zealand, the article includes an interview with Jonathan Bree from the Brunettes, Ryan McPhun from The Ruby Suns, James Milne (AKA Lawrence Arabia) from the Reduction Agents and praises the NZ label Lil' Chief Records, from whence they came.

It's a hugely significant article for all of these bands - and is timely as the Brunettes are currently touring the UK and Europe before heading off for the US leg of their tour. The Brunettes UK profile being lifted substantially by their song ‘BABY’ which was featured on a national ad campaign in December and the release of their American made music video of Small Town Crew (with Heather Mansfield as a giant woman wandering the streets of New York).

Fast gathering critical approval is The Ruby Suns, currently on tour in Europe following stunning reviews of their latest album ‘Sea Lion’ in all the major music magazines as well as the globally influential accolade of “best new music” from indie website Pitchfork .

Another member of the Lil Chief crew, James Milne (Reduction Agents / Lawrence Arabia) is currently on tour with pop mega star Feist on her European tour including a date at the Royal Albert Hall!!

My my… perhaps Lil Chief just got a bit bigger.

Have a read - it's awesome!!
