25 November 2000, Wellington already in the grasp of a growing dance music market received an event that has yet to be repeated by any other group of music lovers. Sandwiches rocked off the block, ramming the Studionine complex and pushing the standard for other events. The key points of difference, punters found out that they were the focus for the event, with an environment that encouraged participation. The music was of course first rate, party goers were able to operate outside their usual parameters as all the dance genres worked together to form that classic Sandwiches taste. Prompted by a Gorilla handing out flyers down the main thoroughfares of Wellington on a busy afternoon the feeling was that this event was actually going to be a party and not a fashion statement. The proposition was simple, come as you are and express the good times you are having – feel free, have fun. After all, you can make Samdwiches. Innovation in the organising of the event has taken its own creative direction with a room developed for the live music acts to play in, and now musicians and DJ’s stand side by side creating the raw fusion that brings out the ‘party’ in people. Now, two years and a string of successful events each with an impression of its own, some of the worlds best DJs mixing it up with the best of the locals, and a new definition of “cutting-edge music” for those that were privileged to here it. Sandwiches has now launched its greatest ‘ongoing event’ to further the frontier. A bit like Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches – not everyone has tried them but they sound like fun (and they taste good too). | |
