Gig & Concert News - Original Wellington music for Breast Cancer Network

Original Wellington music for Breast Cancer Network

22 September 2012 - 0 Comments

Three top Wellington female singer songwriters will be showing their support for the Breast Cancer Network of New Zealand at ‘Green for the Pink’ a concert playing at Bodega on Friday 12 October.

Julie Lamb of headline act the Lambinators says the event was inspired by her mother’s support of this cause.

“Mum died in 2008 and never got to see the launch of my first album later that year but she was the inspiration behind me having the courage to do it,” says Julie.

“That inspiration hasn’t diminished and this year I’ve released a second album which is getting amazing feedback including having been picked up by an Australian compilation and US Butterflies Radio. I’ll be playing a lot of music from the new album at Green for the Pink.”

Julie says her mother received enormous support from the Breast Cancer Network. “It’s really important to me to keep saying thanks – and to keep supporting a cause mum believed in very much.” Perhaps it's best expressed in Julie's poem for the event:

Fight the Reason:

I miss you mama every day I wake in the morning and think of you. I see you smile in your own quiet way and I reach for your dear face. I think of you mama all the time. I know it’s a life for living but like fine wine it was better with you in it. So I set up this concert for the cause you chose to show that I too want to fight the reason you left. And maybe, just maybe, even tomorrow there’ll be one less person in the world bereft... damn cancer… I know! I know! it’s a word not a sentence! But I miss you mama every day and so while we fought that damn word with every breath it feels like a paragraph... even a novel… of loss... to me jl2010

The Lambinators will be supported at Green for the Pink by:

Merrin
“Sultry, soul-infused rock with a Tina Turner, Evanescence and No Doubt explosion". Merrin's first single ‘Bleed; is ramping up the audience charts, and their international popularity is rising along with it!

Emma Davey and The Monks of Cool:
If Robert Plant and Maxine Sullivan had a love child, Emma Davey would be it! Just as at home belting Immigrant Song as she is singing Skylark, her original music reflects her ability to traverse a wide variety of music. Never a dull moment!
