Gig & Concert News - Solid Announces Ellie Goulding

Solid Announces Ellie Goulding

13 September 2012 - 0 Comments

Solid Entertainment are delighted to announce that ELLIE GOULDING will be playing her first ever show in New Zealand at The Studio in Auckland on Friday October 26th. Ellie arrives with perfect timing – a highly anticipated brand new second album Halcyon, an artist capturing hearts and imaginations everywhere she plays, and embarking on a year set to take her stratospheric!

Ellie Goulding’s astounding voice has always been a universally acclaimed centrepiece. Her live shows ricochet from electropop dynamite immersed in dance beats from dubstep to electronica all the way through to sparse ‘folktronica’, where her multi-textured voice marks Ellie as one of this generations’s most enthralling, singular and compelling songwriters.

UK based Ellie Goulding first rose to prominence in 2010 when she topped the BBC Sound of 2010 poll and won the Brit Awards Critics Choice Award, becoming only the second artist (after Adele in 2008) to scoop both these awards in the same year.

Goulding’s debut album Lights went straight to Number 1 in the UK and garnered the hit singles Starry Eyed, Under The Sheets, and Guns and Horses. Since the albums release in 2010 it has slowly but surely spread it’s magic around the world.

The album’s title track Lights was released in the US in March 2011 and in recent weeks has completed a staggering record-breaking climb. Now , 18 months later, and during its thirty third week on the chart, the song  reached a peak position of Number 2 in the Billboard Hot 100, whilst the album has gone double-platinum. The single currently sits at #3 in the USA and has been a very recent hit in New Zealand.

In a year impossible to script Ellie Goulding performed at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding reception at Buckingham Palace and then a few months later at the White House for Barack Obama. Between times Ellie was hitting the road with her boyfriend Skrillex and some of the planet’s biggest DJ’s, on a journey that helped form Halcyon where electronica collides with the rhythms and textures of the clubbing scene against Ellie’s characteristic skewed folk-pop landscapes.

Further highlights include playing the major worldwide festival circuit, touring with Passion Pit and Katy Perry,  and working with Tinie Tempah, Chiddy Bang, Mika, Skrillex and Bassnectar. Goulding has received nominations for Best Female Artist, Best Album and Breakthrough Artist across the Q Awards, the Brits, MTV, UK Festival Awards, Teen Choice and Virgin Media Awards. Ellie placed at number five on Rolling Stones Hot List in 2011.

Ellie Goulding arrives in New Zealand on a career high and a perfect moment - as she introduces her brand new album to the world. Halycon is set for release (Universal) on October 12th and the lead-off single Anything Could Happen is already blasting out from radio speakers across the country.

Ellie Goulding and her five piece band play in New Zealand for the first time on Friday October 26th.

Tickets are expected to sell quickly. Make no mistake -  Its one to say you saw!
