The Underground Festival This Saturday

Ryan Kershaw has organised The Underground Festival which will be held at the King's Arms in Auckland on Saturday 10 March.

Entry to the event is free. Its purpose is to promote New Zealand underground music, arts and music-related companies.

Here is the line-up and schedule for this great event, which is set to give bands a great place to play that might not otherwise have the chance.

3:30 Royal Falcon

After a self-titled EP in 2008, Royal Falcon released their warmly received debut album Royal Falcon Ruined My Life in September 2009. The band was rocked later that year by the untimely death of inspirational leader Dan Pilkington, but remain committed to their original vision, pushing on to release second album Royal Falcon Is The Ocean (the majority of which was written and demoed prior to Pilkington's passing) in December 2010, before descending on Zone1Studios to incubate the next hatchling.

Royal Falcon's music has been picked-up by and features heavily in South Pacific Pictures' popular TV series Go Girls.

4:15 Rocket

ROCKET are a lively, high energy and experienced 5-piece rock covers band. The band is made up of experienced gigging musicians Hannah Elise (previously in Litvak Attack) , Jet Agnew (ex-Renegade), has studied classical guitar and has a performance diploma with Trinity College London and Dave Luff (previously in Naqaudah). Vocalist Ross Jones has sung in the theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar and West Side Story, as well as fronting his former Auckland covers band Stigma

5:30 Jealous Itch

Made from the ashes of kiwi bands Stonehenge, Confessor, Adrenalin and Heavy Duty comes Jealous Itch. The band launched their "official" live onslaught as support act to Def Leppard in November 2008,

In January 2009 Jealous Itch made the finals of the Iron Maiden Support Competition and released their debut album Scratch which was quickly received into stock at JB Hi Fi, Real Groovy and numerous Australian outlets.

6:30 Kasium

Formed in 2008, they have self-released an album, an EP and two music videos and are becoming known for energetic live performances through playing regularly in the Auckland area. They have performed live to air on 95bFM and received some airtime on NZ radio stations as well as C4's Homegrown show for their music videos Drowned and So Electric.

Their debut album Exhale was released December 12th 2011

7:30 Frozen Alice

Frozen Alice are a four piece progressive rock band from Auckland who released their debut album The Torino Scale in September 2010. They ventured to NSW for a few successful dates and plan to return in November. They're heavily influenced by Karnivool, Tool and Porcupine Tree.

9:15 Invader Cain

Invader Cain formed in 2009. They have performed shows in many venues and festivals around Auckland and rocking two North Island Tours. Last year Invader Cain recorded at York Street Studios producing the song Burning which has had extensive radio play during 2011 and look out for their soon to be released single and animated video of Back of your Mind.

10:00pm Ryan Kershaw

Ryan has been in bands since he was 12 years old. Successful in both the Rockquest and Battle of the Bands competitions, he has self funded multiple recordings on various formats which have been aired on television and radio. In 2012, Ryan has created 'The Underground Festival' and is working on plans for a tour featuring New Zealand's best guitar players.
