NZ School's Tour is back - already!

On the brink of extinction, due to a lack of funding. The NZ Schools Tour 2007 tour is back. The tour will be the biggest rock event to hit high school halls this year! Thanks to the support of Clearasil Ultra, C4, and The Edge sponsorship a shortened version of the Schools Tour to kick off on 7 June 2007.

NZ School Tour tour Organiser Matt Ealand is excited about getting the show back on the road after things were dead and buried.

“Thanks to Clearasil Ultra, C4, and The Edge we are able to get the most exciting music mentoring event back out. This helps to continue the momentum we have been building over the past five years. Its a wicked event for schools, students, the touring band, and the Rockquest bands. We are all about fun, excitement and educating.”

This year’s headline act, Auckland based band Streetwise Scarlet, will be taking their music to high schools nationwide during the month long tour.

Band front man Sam Smith says Streetwise Scarlet is pumped to be doing shows again after spending six months in the studio recording their album.

“While we’re not doing the complete full three month tour, we’re stoked to be able to get out to more than a dozen schools between Whangarei and Invercargill.”

The tour marks the release of the band’s newest single ‘Hey O’, which is about the disintegration of today’s society.

“We feel like we have something of importance to say that this audience will want to hear, which is why we got into music – it’s the best way to communicate,” says Sam.

Sam says the band was formed when he and drummer Scotty Rocker of Celebrity Treasure Island fame met during Schools Tour 2003. Both were acting as support crew for touring band Wash.

“I started writing songs on tour and when we got back to Auckland me and Scotty decided to form the band. Scotty brought along his bassist mate George Hampton and my brother Jesse Smith joined us. That’s pretty much how we started up.”

The Clearasil Ultra Mini Schools Tour will be visiting 13 high schools across the country during June. All schools have been selected on the basis of the smokefreerockquest and each school’s resident rock band will have the opportunity to wow their peers with a warm up performance before Streetwise Scarlet takes the stage!

Musically inclined students will then get to take part in a rock workshop with the band and learn the musical skills required to get a crowd going.

Keep an eye on C4 for highlights of the tour and listen out for the guys on The Edge for nightly updates. The Clearasil Ultra Mini Schools Tour timetable, information and highlights will be posted on the official tour site www.theset.co.nz.

The muzic.net.nz newsletter going out on 17 June will be an extra special Schools Tour issue - if you want to receive this awesome issue, make sure you are signed up to receive the newsletter in your member options.
