Band & Musician News - Keith Sweat | SHOWS NOW CANCELLED

Keith Sweat | SHOWS NOW CANCELLED

27 April 2017 - 1 Comment

These shows have now been cancelled - please see comments below for more details.

Illusive Presents and Frontier Touring are thrilled to confirm that R&B sensation and New Jack Swing pioneer Keith Sweat will tour New Zealand for the very first time this July. In addition to performing an array of old classics, like Kiwi Top 10 singles Twisted and Nobody, he will also be celebrating the release of his brand new album Dress To Impress (out now).

‘He so effortlessly recaptures the magic that made him one of R&B’s biggest stars’ – Soul in Stereo

‘Respectable and sound, Dress to Impress is tried-and-true.’ – The Musical Hype

‘Keith Sweat still has the power to ‘Make You Sweat’ when he puts on a show.’ –Soul Train

Born in Harlem, New York, Sweat performed throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut with his band Jamilah before breaking out on his own in 1984. The release of his debut album Make It Last Forever sold over three million copies and featured hit single I Want Her which catapulted to number one on the R&B charts and number five on the pop charts.

Make It Last Forever was followed shortly thereafter by I’ll Give All My Love To You in 1990, which reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart. It featured memorable 90’s R&B singles Make You Sweat and I Give All My Love To You, both singles reaching number one on the R&B charts.

In addition to being an accomplished and successful R&B star, Sweat is considered a pioneer of New Jack Swing, a sound that fuses together hip-hop, contemporary soul, high tech funk and in some cases hip-hop. Sweat’s debut album Make It Last Forever was extremely influential in developing the sound with some critics even considering it to be what kicked off the genre.

Throwing it back to basics, Dress To Impress pays homage to Sweat’s original sound. Driven by his classic laid back R&B style, it features singles such as Good Love and Just The 2 Of Us, capturing how truly talented an R&B star Sweat is.

Having sold over fifteen million albums in the US alone and several of his singles reaching number one, Sweat is amongst only a handful of R&B artists to have been rewarded such longevity and success in their career. Don’t miss out on witnessing some of R&B’s most memorable songs from one of the genre’s icons. Fans are urged to secure their tickets early to avoid missing out on what is sure to be an amazing night.
