Antiform

Bio

The Breakbeat and Drum and Bass group Antiform (Josh, Luke and Brendon) are creating a storm overflowing across the Tasman. Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, the boys have armed themselves with epic, bass-driven, melodic riffs and a floor storming live show that sends crowds into a feeding frenzy. You’ll find synths, samplers, wicked scratching and maybe even some live guitar at any of their shows. They are among the first picked to headline any major festival (Future Music, Phat08 NYE, Summerdayze, Godskitchen, Our House, Slinky, Groove in the Park, Highlife Entertainment and more) that come to town, because they are guaranteed crowd winners.

Josh & Luke Purcell met Brendon Spain through the mid 90's on the national DJ circuit before combining their talents to create Antiform in 2002. Their first track 'Lardass' in 2003 was released on the Kog Transmissions compilation ‘Return of the Booomshwack’ mixed by Timmy Schumacher. 'Sweeper'
was then released on The Grey Lynn Park Festival CD, a sampler of the biggest bands who play at the annual 5,000 strong event. Their track 'Alone'
with vocalist Tamara Brons, create a cheeky stir in 2006. It was accompanied by a steamy, sweaty, cheerleader-filled video (dubbed as New Zealand's version of the Benny Benassi’s 'Satisfaction'!) which barely passed censorship! It is a regular feature on national music TV including Juice, C4 and Alt TV. It was just the beginning with regular appearances performing on Music TV shows to follow.

Their project with MC Twincam created 'It’s all about' which hit number three on Radio BFM’s chart and feature on the Kingsland Electro compilation CD. In 2006 Antiform produced ‘Crash’, an uplifting drum n bass classic which has been remixed by globally recognised Drum and bass producer Agent Alvin and is scheduled to be released in March 2008 by Broke Recordings which is acknowledged as being the leading Breakbeat record label in the UK.

In 2007 Antiform delivered 'Boombox', a ragga style tearout breaks tune released on one of the world's leading Breakbeat labels, Hardcore Beats.
‘Boombox’ is already on the playlists of some of the world’s top Breakbeat Dj’s including The Autobots, Aquasky, Ctrl-Z, Screwface and more. 2008 is the year of releases for Antiform. ‘Grip’ featuring Hip Hop MC’s Neesh and Ethical is out on Broke Recordings in February 2008 and Antiform has just signed another track, a collaboration with Tiki Taane of Salmonella Dub fame to Broke which is set for release in May 2008 along with a scheduled music video for commercial release in New Zealand and Australia in May 2008. Most recently Antiform were summoned for remix duties on Tiki and Julia Deans’s beautiful collaboration ‘Our Favourite Target’ which has just been released in January 2008.

Already a crowd favourite to thousands of New Zealand clubbers, Antiform are set to take the global stage with string of huge releases.

ANTIFORM release debut album ‘City In Exile’ Monday 25 May

Featuring collaborations with Tiki Taane, MC Twincam, Angelo Munro (Bleeders) & Julia Deans.

The name Antiform has been on the lips and turntables of Breakbeat and Drum and Bass pioneers for a lengthy amount of time already. ‘City In Exile’ – in stores May 25 - is their hotly anticipated debut album featuring collaborations with some of NZ’s finest artists, including Tiki Taane, MC Twincam, Angelo Munro (Bleeders), Julia Deans and Agent Alvin. New single ‘Bury Me’ featuring Awaking State is currently at Alt radio across the country.

Antiform have travelled a vast distance since their conception in the 2002 where brothers Josh and Luke Purcell met Brendon Spain on the national DJ circuit. Their combined talents have taken them from a local festival CD to the Hardcore Beats 3 compilation and being nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ at the Breakspoll 2008 awards in the UK, making them the first Kiwis ever to be nominated for this huge accolade. If this wasn’t enough, Antiform have captured the attention of hugely influential producers such as The Freestylers, Freq Nasty, Screwface, Ctrl Z, The Autobots, Affinity, and their single ‘Got To Be You’ was play listed on the BBC’s Radio One with Annie Nightingale.

The 3-piece hail from Auckland - an unlikely breeding ground for the epic bass-driven, melodic riffs that have created mania on the dance floor and sent crowds of partygoers wild. In 2008 alone Antiform completed a hugely successful Australian Tour, sold out all three EP release parties for their EP ‘Got To Be You’ with over 800 people at each event. Antiform have also performed at NYE festivals, Rhythm and Vines and Phat09, The Big Day Out, and Our House Summer Festival at Western Springs.
