Since graduating from the University of Auckland School of Music in 1995 with an honours diploma in guitar performance, Bruce Paine has given recitals in New Zealand, Austria, the Czech Republic and Great Britain. A highlight of his visit to Prague in 1998 was a shared concert with the Czech virtuoso guitarist and composer, Stepan Rak, at the prestigious Dum U Kamenneho Zvonu (Palace at the Stone Bell.)
He has also performed with the Auckland Choral Society and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and a highlight of his career was in 2001, as soloist with the St Matthews Chamber Orchestra performing Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, under the baton of Antun Polyanich.
Established as a Concert FM recording artist in 1995, Bruce Paine has developed a passion for recording and gone on to produce three CD’s of solo guitar repertoire. The latest, recorded in the grand foyer of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, includes the premiere recording of Auckland composer David Hamilton’s work for solo guitar Pioneer Spirit.
