Chris went to America in 2004 where he visited his publishers in Nashville and did a series of concerts in the Boston area of Massachussetts for Rockin' World Records who had re-released his first album.
He also played at a concert in London by Wizz Jones- the great granadaddy of British Folk-Blues guitar. Chris also played at a jazz club in Paris and briefly revisited his old busking station in the Metro where he had worked every day for six months in 1972.
He has released two more albums to date-"For My Double" which was a jazz/blues/experimental album which some critics described as reminding them of Van Morrison or Tom Waits, and "The White Sapphire"-more of a country-blues style album which was recorded in Taupo and featured a guest appearance by Dave McArtney of Hello Sailor.
These albums are available from Global Routes 2000 Ltd.A review from the Taupo Times follows: "Taupo musician Chris Thompson's latest album The White Sapphire, is an intense mix of New Zealand folk/country music with the blues. Chris, who has been playing and singing for over 35 years has shared the stage with music legends like Jimmy Young, Wizz Jones and Brownie McGhee.
His latest album even has a song about Taupo, called "Taupo Police Emergency". The White Sapphire has amazing instrumental back up.This together with Chris' unique vocals and the assistance of ex Hello Sailor member Dave McArtney, makes Chris Thompson's The White Sapphire a rare experience for any New Zealand folk/country music and blues fan".
This year also saw another cover version of one of Chris' songs"Chelsea Blues " which was recorded by Chris Priestley on his "Uncovered " C.D.
Chris is now living back in Hamilton near the University where he plays regularly as well as about town. He is also teaching some guitar students and working on a collaborative album called "The Monday Club" with other Waikato musicians, Tim Armstrong Tony Edwards and Neil Nooyen.
