Anton Ryan, born in Auckland, had a fundamental introduction to music while performing in his Middle School Orchestra. But it wasn't until his senior years of High School when he turned to guitar and the voice to find his own musical expression and started writing songs.
While attending the University of Auckland he performed solo acoustic shows on and off Campus developing his songwriting and live performance. In 1988 he penned his first jingle for a video clip he wrote and produced a presentation on Fire Code safety in New Zealand. In 1990 he performed at the Gluepot, a premier venue to support peace for 2000.
In 1991 he moved to Sydney, and started playing the live music circuit both as a solo act and with his band Anton Ryan and the Fresh, receiving positive reviews.
During this time Ryan attended the Sydney's Metro Television for film editing. In 1997 he was made a member of the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and was appointed the Treasurer of the Society of Australian Songwriters. In addition Ryan had his own radio program for local music on Radio Skid Row, broadcasting and organising benefits for the station.
That year Anton was sponsored recording time at Australia's SBS Studios. Musicians Mark Kennedy (premier session drummer) and bassist Chris Bailey (The Angels/Gangagang) accompanied him on it. The track 'Sing It Out' from the session recordings was selected for the 1998 Big Backyard International Radio Series. It was broadcasted to 1500 college and commercial radio stations worldwide throughout the year.
In 1998 Ryan travelled to the United States to administer a Rock Music Program for a performance Art Camp in Pennsylvania. In 1999 Minneapolis www.music01.com selected some of Ryan's recordings from Australia, making an MP3 compilation titled 'Scattered Pieces'.
Residing now in Saint Paul, Ryan has recorded an EP 'On The Inside' sampling songs from a large body of new material.
