Bio

The idea for Winterland was first conceived when musician/ writer/ programmer Mike Caulfield met singer/ lyricist John Mason. Mason went to work writing lyrics and melodies for an array of musical ideas given to him by Caulfield. Their ambition was to write well-constructed rock music incorporating darker elements and atmospheres.

Caulfield and Mason soon incorporated other like-minded musicians and have played extensively around the greater Auckland area. Highlights have included headlining New Zealand’s main gothic/ darkwave events and being favourably received by an audience of nearly 10,000 at the Sweetwaters Festival.
