Voted 'Best New Band' of 2002 by followers of local punk website www.punkas.com.
With a heavy writing and recording schedule keeping them typically low key. This Night Creeps have been sporadically debuting new material throughout 2005. Sharing bills with The Mint Chicks, Die! Die! Die! and Melbourne’s Colditz Glider.
Described as ‘cinematic, emotionally and structurally complex
music’ (punkas.com) and among other things, ‘arty and smart, but not in the disappearing up their own crack kind of way’ (Vice magazine) as well as being tipped as “Ones to Succeed” (Real Groove Magazine).
Known for their spontaneously destructive and unpredictably chaotic live show This Night Creeps have achieved much since the release of their self titled MCD of 2003 (deleted). Bringing their intense guitar-driven electro sound to audiences throughout Australasia; playing numerous international supports and tours with both local and international heavyweights.
This Night Creeps formed in early 2002 as a previous bands framework and direction began to inhibit the members. Luke and Steve from Hamilton Punk band My Two Cents decided to start afresh with Steve switching from bass to drums and Luke remaining as guitarist/vocalist. With the addition of long time friend Jeffrey Burch joining on bass the birth of This Night Creeps was now complete.
Drawing from wide influences each song project undertaken in the initial writing process was an interesting experience for the members due to a focus on trying to play in a way that was unfamiliar. Experimenting with different guitar tones, unusual timings and more intense dynamics than the three were previously experienced in using. This resulted in long journeys into experimental compositions that would sometimes go nowhere but other times reward with more interesting ways of arranging songs that are apparent upon the first few tries.
With a couple of songs nearing completion the need for a second guitarist was becoming apparent, mainly for more complex melody and layering, but also just to fill in the sound which by this stage was quite organic and raw. The three members had discussed options but nothing seemed like it would work, until Luke took it upon himself to ask Mark Brendorffer to join the band. Mark (Dryden) was living in Whakatane at the time recovering from a serious car accident in which he injured his back. So a four track tape in the mail and a few weeks later Mark appeared at rehearsal in Hamilton with a beautiful second guitar part for 'peasant evening'. The first song the group ever completed. With Mark in place another lead vocal was added without a hitch and the first set of five songs appeared, followed shortly by their debut live performance to a small group of close friends at their Hillcrest rehearsal space.
Fresh from the road as support for The Mint Chicks on their 'F##k The Golden Youth' tour This Night Creeps are poised to conquer.
