Bio

Rising from the ashes of D-Super that prematurely disbanded following the release of its acclaimed debut album 'Straight to the Sun', The Accelerants combine songwriting smarts with a passion for playing – and it’s an explosive mix.

Following D-Super’s demise, frontman and songwriter Marty Squire survived a car accident and along the way rediscovered his passion for making and playing music. The Accelerants retain Squire’s splashes of surf guitar and acerbic lyrical flashes heard in D-Super and combines them with a retro rock swagger that pays tribute to the past but still sounds fresh.

Squire is joined by dynamic drummer Ricky Boyd (ex-Canvas), long tall John Douglas (ex-Marineville) and Leo on keys.

Already a live favourite in their hometown of Wellington, The Accelerants have also performed in Auckland, and were previously known as The Shining Path.

"Glam and all things nice, The Accelerants have got a cool new sound."
A Low Hum

"...the Accelerants are a blast of clean air through the haze of mediocrity."
Brent Cardy, Real Groove, June 2003
