a review on 48May submitted by Epitomised_Drummer.
This album has been a long time coming, after releasing 3 great singles, playing quite a few big gigs, and recently taken on by Festival Mushroom Records, 48 May have released their debut album “The Mad Love”.
I got the pleasure of having a listen to this album before it was available to the general public, and have to say, I am mighty impressed.
The thing that amazes me about this album is that everything was funded by the band up until two weeks before the release of the album, where Festival Mushroom Records picked up the band to help them through the release.
The album sounds surprisingly familiar to the likes of Blink 182 (sorry to stereotype) but it has some great hooks (no pun intended), and strong clear vocals in a pop punk sound.
There are 4 tracks that stand above the rest in my opinion, and three of them have already been released as singles, “Fight Back”, “Come Back Down”, “Leather And Tattoos”, and “Pokerface”. For those of you who have heard Blink 182’s albums, it reminds me a lot of “Enema Of The State”.
This album is definitely worth buying, it is a very high quality kiwi album, well produced, and grows on you as you listen to it.
