DJ Hawkes

Bio

DJ, producer, club night promoter, and general multi-tasking organiser - what doesn't this guy do?

DJ Hawkes' career in the clubbing scene started when he began promoting club nights in London back in 1998. And when another FEVAH DJ, UK based Riksta, took him record shopping, he was hooked.

Within a few months, Hawkes got his first play out with Fahrenhite, then for Fevah UK, before running some of his own nights such as Charged and at Sid's bar in London.

When Blair's visa for the UK expired at the end of 1999, it seemed only natural to team up with James Colebourne to bring Fevah back to New Zealand audiences. After holding their first Fevah party in Christchurch in December 1999, the pair have regularly attracted thousands of avid hard dance fans to parties at all the major centres. And on the way they've also managed to play host to some of the biggest names in the DJ world including Fergie, Nick Sentience, BK, x and x.

Hawkes managed to escape the mayhem of organising Fevah NZ events in the middle of 2001 to travel to Tokyo and the UK and produce two hard trance tracks - Panic and Strange Events - two of the few hard trance tracks ever to be produced by a New Zealander.

On his return to New Zealand, Hawkes released both tracks on the first ever FEVAH NZ CD, a double CD featuring a hardhouse disc mixed by the legendary Ian M, and a hard trance CD mixed by himself.

Blair's advice to anyone who would also like to work full time in the scene?

"Most DJs will say 'I wanna play!!!' but they aren't prepared to do much else about it. But we can't run Fevah nights all by ourselves - each event is a big team effort. So I take notice of people who aren't only keen to get on the decks, but who will pitch in and help with the less glamorous jobs too."
