One word
Autotune.
Go and look it up on wikipedia or another online encyclopaedia.
Almost no-one doesn't use it these days, for the fine touches.
Doesn't help in making a crap voice sound good but allows perfect harmonies every time, even if a little bit out.
After all, why would anyone pay so much to record and not get everything right for ten seconds work per harmony?
