Japan is hot. Tokyo is cool. Music is universal.
After relocating to Tokyo in 2004, it seems that these are the only things not lost in translation for Pierced in their long journey since leaving New Zealand. True to Tokyo style Pierced has maintained a hectic schedule playing shows in hot-spots such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Shimokitazawa, while constantly changing their live show to keep challenging audiences and attracting new attention.
"This city has so much energy that you have two options, drown or try and harness the hyperactivity for the powers of good. And for us that 'good' is putting on a great performance," says bass player Joe Turnbull.
In addition to Turnbull, Ben Howe, Jeff Soukotta, Daev Howe, and new guitarist Keita Mori round-out the line-up. "Keita has brought a lot to the band, he adds a lot of power to the mix," according to Ben.
Just what to call the product of the mix is a difficult question as Pierced sounds like nothing you've heard before but at the same time like something YOU own. But in the end Pierced rock. Guitars clash with interesting rythym tracks and melodic vocals, while it'a all glued together by keyboards, sythns, and samples. "Its great that people can never accurately label us as 'this or that' sound. It keeps both us as writers and the audience as listeners on our toes." With tracks such as 'Down Sword', 'Simple Excuse', and 'I Have' adhering to this tough to classify formula, Pierced have layed down a platform for their future success.
Like we've said all long Pierced's music is all about creating a form of escapism that provokes a range feelings and moods. "Knowing that everyone has bills, bosses, and deadlines, when someone listens to our music we want them to forget about those things for a brief moment in time and just go with where the music takes them,"says Jeff.
And so for now wherever the rock 'n roll road takes them Pierced continue to dedicate everything they do to anyone who has ever stood on a rush hour train, has had a week full of Monday's, or has had to submit to those red lights that conspire against you everyday.
