Day One

Bio

Day One was formed in May 1998 with the current line up coming together in mid 2001. While fitting into the heavy metallic hardcore genre, Day One have uniqueness to their style that has established and nurtured a solid base of supporters. The combination of brutal heaviness, massive chords, technical playing and precise tightness juxtaposed with beautiful melodies create the band’s huge trademark sound.

Momentum has started to build for this Auckland quintet. Having played at the Big Day Out earlier in the year where they drew one of the biggest crowds of the day for the essential stage, Day One have also recently completed a North Island tour with one of the world's premiere hardcore acts One King Down. The band regularly plays around Auckland, and have featured on the bFM live to air show at the Kings Arms. Day One's first full-length was recorded on Midium Records and the album, titled 'Less Than Perfect', was distributed by Zomba Recordings throughout New Zealand.

Day One have supported many overseas acts. A North Island tour was conducted with Melbourne band Mindsnare, with other dates supporting Adelaide's Day of Contempt and Sydney's Not For You. American bands Day One have played with include Your Mother, North Island tours with Vision of Disorder, Washington DC's Good Clean Fun and most recently New York's One King Down.

The debut 'Less Than Perfect' was released July 2001. Other recordings by Day One include a seven-song EP in 1999 and songs on two compilations - 'All We Have is Metal' in 1998 and 'A Day in the Life' in 1999.

"... Day One were the highlight of the night with a HUGE set. No one was gonna touch them tonight. They put on a killer live performance and not only were they heavy and intense but so tight! Fresh off playing the big day out the night before they were relentless. The frontman Mike was a great audience pleaser giving the performance the icing on the cake. Glad I got to see dayone after hearing a lot about them. I can't wait for the album!"
- Review of January 20th show at Pizza Pizza Auckland in 'Word Salad' Australian fanzine.

“... when Day One came on the mosh finally took over and the madness began. Day One's singer was incredible, screaming anything deep or high. An hour later after a full-on fury fest we left the gig drenched in sweat. 5/5”

On a sad note, Day One have decided to call it quits. The band called it off two weeks ago.
