EWH BIO

Developing their own sound and twist on modern hip hop, psychedelic and soul Electric Wire Hustle introduces a new combination of NZ musicians – Taay Ninh, Mara TK and Myele Manzanza and their fresh new sound.

Challenging genre boundaries and preconceptions, the music of EWH reaches forward while referencing key points of music’s past. Thick drums and percussion layered with synth lines, hints of Fender Rhodes and nylon stringed guitars have your neck snapping while your ear cranes to the evocative vocals of Mara TK.

EWH released and toured their self titled debut album in New Zealand through their own label EveryWaking Hour in September 09 and have recently returned from their first tour of Europe where they played 8 phenomenal shows across London, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris.

Since forming in 2007 EWH have experienced an outstanding response to their music. Their strong live shows have seen them support the likes of UK soul singer Alice Russell, Japan’s DJ Krush and Grooveman Spot, U.S. psychedlic soul outfit SA-RA Creative Partners in Paris and perform alongside fellow New Zealanders The Blackseeds at London’s legendary Shepherds Bush Empire, Berlin’s Glashaus Arena and most recently with Shapeshifter at the Christchurch Townhall.

EWH have also had the pleasure of collaborating with U.S. recording artists Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins (Epistrophik Peach/SomeOthaShip/ Ubiquity Records). Atlanta based new comer Stacy Epps and Mara’s dad; NZ blues legend – Billy TK, who all feature on their debut album, as well as UK future Soul exponent Steve Spacek in the track Longtime which was released on 12” vinyl through Japanese label Wonderful Noise earlier this year. Wonderful Noise will also be releasing a further 12” and 7” featuring tracks from the album.

David 'Taay Ninh' Wright (keyboards, synths)
