Greg Johnson's US Label In Trouble Posted: Thu May 22, 2003 11:48 am Greg Johnson has completed his 4-track EP under his deal with Santa Monica based Immergent Records just in time!
The label's parent company, 5.1 Entertainment, has reportedly struck hard times and has decided to get out of the 'pop-rock' music line, dropping Greg and four other recently signed artists.
"For a midsize indie label, the swing was just too wide on how much money you have to spend to get that elusive pop/rock hit," says 5.1 Chairman John Trickett.
Greg's manager Michelle Bakker says that while it is certainly an inconvenience, the timing may be fortuitous. "The deal has really worked well to this point because it allowed Greg to get his feet in the soil here in the US, and witha growing fan base and a beautiful new EP, negotiations for another label are going very well, helped along by the fact that we are placing his songs easily into American TV and film."
Greg and guitarist Ted Brown will be back briefly in Auckland to play the Coast Bar on July 31 and August 1 before returning to the US. |
