Bio

Jinetero MC is a solo reggaetón musician and also the reggaetón singer in Wellington’s Afro-fusion hip hop band, Olmecha Supreme. He is from Cuba but is currently living in Wellington, New Zealand.

His music mixes salsa and hip hop rhythms with the Jamaican influences of reggae and dancehall and has been played on radios internationally. Jinetero MC cuts to the edge of reggaetón bringing a raw Cuban street energy to New Zealand’s dance floors where he is predominantly based.

Jinetero MC grew up with reggaetón in his blood. From age 9, he lived on the streets of Cuba soaking up everything from cultural politics to Cuba’s dance party culture. His narratives talk of love, street life and Cuban politics with songs such as “Please police don’t cross the line” and “Mira”, a song about having the freedom to do and say what you think. As a skilled reggaetón freestyler, his spontaneity pumps up a dance party you’ve got to see.

Jinetero MC represents Tres Peso Music, a collection of Cuba’s top reggaetón musicians based in the underground music scene in Santiago de Cuba. He recently returned to Cuba to record with Kiki Pro, the producer of the Tres Peso family and one of the top reggaetón producers in the Latin world. Jinetero MC’s debut album with songs recorded in Cuba and in New Zealand is due out in early 2009.

In New Zealand, he has worked with legendary rappers such as Upper Hutt Posse and has performed reggaetón at well-known music festivals like Splore in New Zealand and the Kuranda Roots Festival in Australia.
