'Til Now' is the stunning second album from Damien Binder. It’s been a while since his self-titled debut of October 2000, but then he’s been a busy boy playing national and international showcases & supports, and generally wowing everyone who hears his tunes.
The album began in late 2002 with Bob Shepheard & Steve Garden handling production & engineering duties as well as playing bass, electric guitars and drums on the album. Then the live performances beckoned - the World Series in Auckland, supporting Marianne Faithfull (which led the NZ Herald to remark "Binder showed why he should soon be bigger than Bic Runga!"), a trip to America in March to play the prestigious SXSW festival, then back to New Zealand for a national tour with David Gray.
Meantime, Damien’s one-time band mate from the Second Child days (and quite possibly the best pop producer in the country), Chris Van de Geer, was drafted in to mix a radio edit of the album’s title track and lead single. The result was so good Chris was given the task of mixing the entire album, as well as adding his own brilliant lead guitar flourishes. The final touch was added at Sydney’s 301 Studio by the vastly experienced Don Bartley.
The result is a masterclass in tunesmithery. Ten tracks of sublime songwriting, which takes the blueprint of the debut album, and adds a widescreen production mixed with the amazing musical talents of Damien, Steve, Bob, & Chris. The track 'More Than You Could Know' gets the extra assistance of Dianne Swann’s beautiful vocals.
