S.P.U.D had a brief but intense life in the NZ music scene.The gigs were not for the faint-hearted.Some controversy arose over the acronym S.P.U.D as supposedly standing for Society for the protection of the unborn Dog ... much to pro-life organisation S.P.U.C's dismay.Chris Knox is quoted as saying S.P.U.D had the 'X Factor ' ... Thurston Moore referred to the band during their support slot as "Fuckin SPUD man - whooa "

And NZ Herald journalist Dominic Roskrow cursed the day they were formed...
