Landmark - NZ Listener - 17 April 1999
a review on Pacific Underground submitted by gunn.

Pacific Underground is a Christchurch based theatre company of mainly Samoan actors, writers and musicians. If you've caught any of their shows -'Fresh Off The Boat', 'Dawn Raids' or the recent 'Romeo and Tusi' - you'll understand the integral part the musicians play. But the music has a life of it's own, as this collection of songs, raps, instrumentals and even the odd skit, goes to prove. Landmark (Pacific Underground) is a rich and varied sampler; there's the urban reggae of "Warning", the soulful singing of "Pure Love" and "Summer Paradise", the fluidly jazzy guitar of "It's All Love" and the Island rhythms of [Song For Grandma]"Ukulele". It's all underpinned by the most supple rhythm section in this country. I hope they've got a good lawyer, because these grooves will be a temptation to any sampler. Nick Bollinger
