These Four Walls

Bio

These Four Walls came together over four years ago when guitarist Gray Vickers placed an advertisement online with the title 'Singer Wanted'.

When Waihi-based singer Steve Gibb responded to the ad and came to Auckland for an audition, everything fell into place. The musical connection between Gray and Steve would be the driving force behind the band's upcoming success.

And success wouldn't be far away. Wasting no time, the band threw themselves into rehearsals and months later they were rewarded, winning the Battle Of The Bands North Shore Final - a feat considering this was only their third live performance.

Live performance would form the central focus of These Four Walls rise in the NZ music scene. Over the next 3 years the band played over 200 live shows, establishing themselves as one of Auckland's hardest working and most popular live acts. The level of energy and quality of performance at each show set the benchmark for the following one, transforming the group into a well-oiled touring machine.

Over the coming years the band would continue to impress live in Auckland and throughout the North Island. Meanwhile, Gray and Steve developed their songwriting skills, diversifying their sound, as well as cementing the band's current line-up, which features Chris Treeby on bass guitar and Gray's brother
Brad Vickers on the Drums.

In 2006 their more refined rock sound was noticed by NZ on Air, who awarded them the first of two New Recording Artist grants for the song 'Walk Away'. When the song was released in February 2007 it received regular rotation on The RockFM, KiwiFM, C4 and Juice TV - something almost unheard of for an unsigned band. In 2008 Walk Away was ranked No. 965 on The RockFM’s Rock 1000 countdown - The only unsigned band to make the list.

Following up Walk Away, These Four Walls released their second NZ on Air funded single Under 'The Shadows'. This song marked the band's debut on The EdgeFM and also won the EA Amplify competition 2007 (Electronic Arts.)

Presently, the band are preparing to release their third single and music video, 'Fly Home', to radio and television, while working on pre-production for their upcoming debut album.

The singles 'Fly Home' and 'Under The Shadows' are available for download from Amplifier.

These Four Walls Release Highly Anticipated Debut Album

THESE FOUR WALLS RELEASE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM ‘DOWN FALLS AN EMPIRE’ MONDAY 14 SEPTEMBER

The wait is over for fans of Auckland’s THESE FOUR WALLS, as the band release their debut album Down Falls An Empire on Monday 14 September. The musical chemistry and song writing talents of guitarist Gray Vickers and vocalist Steve Gibb are undeniable, and have come together to create a bold, artistic statement from the band.

Down Falls An Empire is musically diverse in its rock sensibilities, yet thematically consistent, taking the listener on a journey and presenting itself as a single piece of art as opposed to just a collection of songs. Ambitious for a debut album, the songs range in style from powerful guitar-driven anthems to melodic and beautiful passages, but thoughout the band retain their individuality and identity.

THESE FOUR WALLS began pre-production for Down Falls An Empire in January with Chris Van De Geer (Stellar*, Solstate, Revolver) and commenced recording in May of this year with both Chris and producer/engineer Andrew Buckton (The D4, Steriogram, Midnight Youth).

The foundations of the band began in 2007 with their first single ‘Walk Away’. The track gradually built momentum on commercial radio, breaking into the NZ Top 40, and featured on The Rock’s Top 30 for 12 weeks. In 2008, ‘Walk Away’ was featured in The Rock’s ‘Rock 1000 Countdown’ as the only song by an unsigned artist. The band’s next single releases, ‘Under The Shadows’ and ‘Fly Home’ were equally successful, also both breaking into the Top 40 Chart. Current single ‘Sweet December’ is already making an impact on radio stations nationwide and set to follow suit of its predecessors.

THESE FOUR WALLS have been in high demand, and rightfully so. The band’s tight, heavy and energetic live performances have caught the attention of hundreds of music fans everywhere, leading the band being selected to showcase their new material at the Big Sound 09 music industry summit - one of the most respected and fastest growing music business events in the Asia Pacific region - in Brisbane later this month. THESE FOUR WALLS are also lined up to support international acts The Airbourne Toxic Event in Brisbane, plus Karnivool in Auckland in September. An extensive national tour is also scheduled later this year leading into a busy festival circuit over summer.

The Walls Fall Down...
Posted: Wed Feb 22, 2006 12:55 pm
Statement made earlier today by Gray Vickers from These Four Walls to thier myspace supporters:

These Four Walls wishes to advise that the band has broken up to allow individual members to pursue new ventures.

The band would like to thank all supporters, fellow musicians and people in the music industry for their outstanding support and encouragement over the last 15 months.

It is a sad loss for the local NZ music scene - These Four Walls are an exceptional group of musicians and we wish nothing but all the best on thier seperate musical ventures...
