Others Requiem

Bio

The Others ReQuiem
Something Error Happens

A collective of heart pounding beats and mind blowing lyrics, The Others ReQuiem are taking New Zealand Hip Hop to new levels - nothing new but everything different, a truthful and expressive view on how authentic modern day pop culture really is, was and will become.

As is often the case, the group met at high school. They started off playing together in a heavy rock outfit, an ancestry you can still feel in the lines and themes of the album. The band cite Skeptik’s ability to bust into rhyme at parties, or whenever the mood took hold, as the impetus to put this forward thinking Hip-Hop act together. Add to that a myriad of influences that range from the Rhymesayers MC’s and KRS-1 to the Beatles to Sergio Leone and Alejandro Jodorowsky.
This is thinking man’s Hip Hop and won’t feel right in the hands of someone looking for the next Timbaland produced Hip-Pop chart buster, although you’d be right in thinking that Timba’s production skillz could be given a run for their money by one Sinergen Drug.

A home-made music video sent to C4’s Home Grown show in 2003 caught the eye of Joy’s Alan Jansson and Simon Grigg (OMC, 3 The Hard Way) and after checking them out live they, via Sony/BMG, practically signed them on the spot. Something Error Happens was recorded at Jansson's Uptown Studios and is true testament to imagination and a strong conscious voice. With a limitlessly creative blend of lyrics and beats, each song on Something Error Happens feels like the height of innovation.

Since breaking out on to the Auckland scene as teenagers, The Others Requiem have gone from strength to strength live and as recording artists, reportedly filming every show they play, not to mention designing their own posters and album artwork. From freestyling at a friends party to a packed Khuja Lounge on a Saturday night, these boys are always evolving and permanently on form.

Expect, nay demand, to hear more. This is the future of Hip Hop.
