Moped is: an infectious groove-based blend of reggae and rock.
A solid base of funky reggae grooves, that entice both soul and body to move, is the platform built upon by Moped's diversions into energetic rock and moments of lyrical rhyme and reason. The vocal diversity, catchy melodies and transparently deep-searching lyrics engage a wide audience in themes of life and liberation universal to all. And where two or more are gathered there is bound to be more than just a rock reggae show.
Moped is comprised of three brothers from Palmerston North (now in Wellington): Karl (drums), Gareth (guitar and vocals) and Hayden (bass and vocals). Since 1997, these three have together explored the limits and potential of music as an expression of their faith. Playing at festivals, youth groups, universities, high schools, Churches and bars all over Aotearoa has produced a strong following, and as a result the crowds have steadily grown and venues spread further afield.
In 2004, Moped took to the road with several tours throughout New Zealand, one tour inparticular venturing to the very bottom of the South Island - a new and wonderfully strange experience for all involved!
The 11-track album 'The Noise From The Knee-Drill' demonstrates the musical exploration of Moped over its earlier experimental years, while also showing a hint of things to come with radio-succesful tracks 'Guilt Trip' and 'Fields'.
The new album 'Welcome To The Exodus' was released in December 2004 - and includes singles 'Sunset Sunrise', 'Grenades & Mines' and a brand new version of 'Fields'.
