Quarter 2 is a punk ska band from the perennial 'new school' breeding grounds of Auckland's North Shore. Originally formed as a three-piece band, they have expanded to the point of having no less than seven members, making them stand apart from the pop-punk that is traditionally the forte of Shore bands.
The band formed in 02 with Paul Brommer, Chris Walsh and Scott Preston. Scott Nicols and Brook Ingram added to the line-up in 03 to complete the band's main rock section. The band now had more depth and style, but by early 04 Quarter 2 decided it was time to introduce something new.
Taking a leaf out of the books of bands such as Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and The Mad Caddies the band was now on the look-out for a horn section.
This came to fruition in March 04 when trombone player Rob Simpson joined the band, bringing more variety and originality to the sound. The trombone adds punchy horn lines that leave listeners whistling in their seats. To finish the line-up, Dean Allan joined the band in September 04, adding catchy, soulful saxophone tunes that enhance the fast punk rhythms.
Quarter 2 are one of the best local punk bands playing - a cool mix of punk and Jamaican ska using original material. Quarter 2 bring all that is extreme and laid-back from their everyday events into catchy, get up and go tunes that will not be easily forgotten.
