Update From Goodshirt Posted: Tue May 27, 2003 10:07 am Recently we did a 'seed-sowing' trip visiting LA, Austin, Cincinnati, New York, Toronto, London, Melbourne and Sydney. Great trip, although we were in the USA as war broke out and through Canada and Singapore as the SARS things was unfolding. Rodney brought us all paint masks in London which we tried wearing. By the time we got to Melbourne Rod was the only one still wearing one, in fact he was the only one in the whole airport with one on.
Our objective was to secure releases in other countries this year and have so far found partners in Canada, Japan and Australia. The album 'Good' has been out in Australia for a few weeks now and we're getting a good response. Triple J (a radio network) has played all three singles so far and have been awesome.
Now we've spent all our savings we're trying to work out how to fund a trip back to capitalize on the work we've done.
Capitol Records and Air NZ are running a bit of a promo for 6 Capitol (NZ) artists. The winning band gets a whack of air travel to help them get overseas. If you'd like to help out, you can vote on http://www.zephyrs.co.nz/ - you'll go in the draw to have the winning band play for you, 5k of Air NZ travel, 100 EMI CDs and a Panasonic Video, .. would be huge if you could vote and spread the word.
New Album:
Rod, Muz, Gareth and Mike are well over half way through recording the new album which is scheduled to be out in NZ on October 27. The first single will be 'Bucket Up' and will be at Radio by the end of June, with another Joe Lonie directed video to follow in July.
News:
- Tune in to Channel 10's Pepsi Live program (Australia) this Tuesday night at 11:30pm to see Goodshirt perform 'Green' live.
- The band will be dropping in for afternoon tea with Mel & Charlie on Triple J's (Australia) drive program at 4:30pm on Thursday 28 May.
- If you missed the Goodshirt interview on Triple J's 2003 program a few weeks ago, it has been archived on the J-website... have a listen at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/2003/default.htm - Gareth and Rodney from Goodshirt explain to Richard Kingsmill how they got their band name from a song called 'Green'
- Look out for interviews in Juice Magazine (June issue), NW, TV Hits + current street press magazines including The Drum Media, The Brag, Time Off, Scene, Beat, Inpress, Forte and BMA
Reviews:
"Hailing from New Zealand, these quirky rockers have a liking for making hilarious video clips and fusing funky synth bites into their punchy, energetic brand of rock. Sounds pretty good to us!"
'Good' album review: TV Hits Magazine, Australia, May 2003
"Forget all this garage rock crapola - the new exciting sound is raw punk meets new wave meets techno weirdery meets art rock warbling. It makes absolutely no sense, and as of now there's only one band signed up to this raw wave weirdery movement (that would be Auckland's Goodshirt), but a word to the wise: you might wanna hook your wagons up now before it passes you by."
'Green' single review: Beat Magazine, Melbourne, April 2003
Thanks for your support - we really appreciate it!!!
