Rongomaiwahine

Bio

Rongomaiwahine are out going artists and who would like to endure in all music, Pop/R&B/ Country etc. all the types of music, although mainly easy listening.

Rongomaiwahine herself has been on "He Wai" and would like to take her music further in to her future. Rongomaiwahine is the main singer, songwriter and organiser of the group Rongomaiwahine, hence why the group is called Rongomaiwahine. Rongomaiwahine at the present time is enjoying her seventh form; she is from Whangara on east coast of Gisborne.

Yvette Te Ariki is another quarter of Rongomaiwahine, and it has always been her dream to make it in the music world. Yvette has an amazing voice, such like angles as described by family members. Yvette is an awesome out going person from Rarotonga with an amazing voice, and yet is going to go far.

Although the Group Rongomaiwahine is still growing, Carley Grace Thompson is now joining the clang, making this a 3-part duo. She is the youngest of the group yet with the most uniqueness voice. You may not see Carley for a while because she is still at school.
Both Carley and Rongomaiwahine are attending Turakina Maori Girls' College, and they are enjoying it to there extent. Yvette how ever is attending Te Wananga o Aotearoa.

There are still more surprises to come, there is talk of another females voice joining the scene, watch this space.

Rongomaiwahine Higgins may not be a household name yet, but that may be a matter of time. Higgins plays tonight at the Crown at one of the Song
Poets Corner gatherings with Jae Bedford, Simon Kerr and Mark Parry.

“This [tonight’s gig] will be my first time in Dunedin, which I am really
excited about, although in Wellington [from where she moved] I have played for about five years. It will be interesting to see how the Dunedin crowd will take me.”

Her musical journey stared when she was very young, “I started in
Wellington, after watching Ruby Turner on stage and I said to my aunty, ‘I
want to do that - I want to perform and sing.’

‘That was about when I was 5. I guess dreams really do come true.”

Asked to describe her music, Higgins replied: “My music comes from the
soul. The way I explain this is everyone goes through experiences and
challenges in life; when you write words that reflect this and also put a
tune that you feel comes from your soul, you have just written soul
music.”

Although her gig tonight will be solo, she is on a recruitment drive.
“Yeah, I am actually playing by myself and am also looking for band
members who can contribute to soul music.”

See Rongomaiwahine Higgins follow her dream at the crown tonight.
