Luger Boa – New Hot Nights
It was with eager anticipation that I picked up my copy of Luger Boa's 'New Hot Nights'. Coming up to be released just a few weeks after another big rock album from Foo Fighters this album has a lot to live up to and a big ask to distract Rock fans from the Foo's latest effort and we didn't even have to worry cause this album kicks rock n roll arse. This album was written in fourteen days in November of 2009 and then recorded in February of the next year but has taken almost another year to be released. Four singles being played on the radio before this came out sets a high standard and I'm sure this won't let fans down in any way. It very loosely takes you through the journey of a big night of drinking and drugs and some of the observations you make in those states. It takes you through the mood swings with all the flavours from rock, disco beats, punk and even touches of Brit pop.
Kicking off with 'Paralysed' which was the second single the album is kick starts you straight into a roller coaster of rock n roll pleasure. Like when you get that first warm beer buzz feeling.
'Lazy' is the laid back answer to slowly getting drunk this was the first single to be released and went down well at their live shows last year.
'New Hot Nights' is the fourth single and is one of the songs I really like shuffles along and picks up the pace as you start warming up until 'Downtown' kicks off with its disco beats. This song is one of my favourites for the album and is a very funky track bouncing you along. That point of drunkenness when you are on that awesome little happy buzz.
'Asteroids and Satellites' is that buzz when you hit town and see all people. Some early punk elements start to come through here. Brit rock punk starts to really come through in 'F.T.K (Fuck The Kids)' a little rush of excitement. This song is very cool little ditty with a great sing along chorus. This was technically the third single but received very little airplay unfortunately.
'The Same Things' to me reminds me of Brit pop reminding me of The Cure with a slightly U2ish sounding guitar or is it maybe The 3Ds either way it's another cool song.
'Bank Robber' rocks out and 'Some Kind of Killer' shows a little more of The Cure's touch as it take you through that crazy period when you are drunk and some of those evil thoughts you may sometimes have.
'Diamond Girls' is about one or two of observations you make when you're really fucked and your struggling to keep it together but you have a few euphonies.
By 'Loose Wire' you're so far gone the spinning starts and leads you to where you just don't even know what's going on and straight into one of the best tracks of the album.
'400a' is the new party anthem can't wait to see them play this song live it's going to get the crowd going and ends the album on a wicked high. Your mind is gone and you don't care just smiling in pure bliss and screaming "everybody get fucked tonight". You feel like you have come full circle and ready to give it another whirl. What a journey and what an album.
This album is Drinking 101 for the masses and will kick start many a party and night on the town in the future Drink deep and smile Luger Boa delivers in style.

2009 saw the release of Luger Boa's debut long player 'Mutate or Die' which was critically acclaimed and featured massive radio hits 'What is Real?', 'I Wanna Girlfriend' and 'On My Mind' - the Rock Radio Song of the Year. Quickly known for incendiary live shows, In their short existance the band have played to countless thousands across the country alongside the like of Shihad, The Mint Chicks, The Living End, Airbourne, The Charlatans and Head Like A Hole, from packed clubs to arenas, as main support for the Kings Of Leon. Earlier this year Luger Boa headlined the sold out State Of Rock nationwide tour, where they debuted the new material from the forthcoming album 'New Hot Nights'.
The first single 'Lazy' is already a certified radio hit, and second salvo 'Paralyzed' is already racing up the charts. There is much more to come from the album, recorded in Auckland and Melbourne, and mixed by Mark Needham in LA, and Andy Baldwin in NYC.
