George FM Year book 2010 Mixed by Dick 'Magik' Johnson

15 Mar 2011 // A review by JohnS

Newly released George FM Year book 2010, proudly mixed by resident DJ Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson has hit the shelves, putting the biggest and hottest tunes from 2010 from the airwaves and cutting them into shape for your listening pleasure. Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson has been throwing down bass in NZ since he moved over from the UK in early 2000 and has been welcomed by bass heads nationwide. No matter where you seam to go there is always a bit of ‘Magik’ close by.

After a huge year for dance music with lesser know genres finally getting their 15 minutes to give you a finger licking taste. Infusing Dub step, Drum and Base as well as UK Funky with traditional house giving a different heart phumping flavour to the world.

Starting off with Auckland’s own Naked and Famous’s Young Blood remixed to warm your blood and set the scene for what is to follow. Unfortunately not all tracks layered down are from kiwi artists but appearances from Tui award winner Bulletproof , P Money and the always spellbinding Shapeshifter performing the summer hit Twin Galaxies to close the album on the high.

The George FM Year book 2010 is out in stores now. Please have a listen though this is only this writer’s opinion and the track list is a great line-up but does have me asking the question, is this it? I recommend this for anyone who went to a dance festival during the summer and want to relive some of those memories. This is by far a better remix album than we have previously seen within NZ but to be honest, its not something I would race out and buy.

09 Sep 2012 // by JohnS
Nervous Doll Dancing is a new name to me, which came as a surprise. I consider myself to have an above average knowledge of kiwi musicians and I’m always a little taken back when I haven’t heard of someone who is this talented before.
