Bulletproof - Dark Times Desperate Measures

14 Jul 2008 // A review by spiderade
'Dark Times - Desperate Measures' by Bulletproof is a very strong album. It features a lot of heavy beats, and the album has a good flow to it that I really enjoyed. From the start of the album, it really leapt into gear with the title track 'Desperate Measures'. The heavy beats and strong bass sets the theme for a darker album that has a very intense tone.

The strong beats of the album is really well done, as it wasn’t a simple race of beats. The transitions between the fast tracks with strident beats and the smoother, more chilled out tracks was very smooth and didn’t just drop the listener from one change to another.

The transition from the frenetic beats of the first two tracks to the more mellow third track '3-way' was almost seamless, and showed the attention that’s gone into the album as a whole.

That said there were some issues that came up as the album progressed. I felt that towards the end of the album, the music became protracted and in some places lost the nice groove that the album started with.

I thought that in a couple of places the album did lose the thread that Bulletproof were striving for as the end wasn’t as dark as the beginning. Towards the later part of the album, the tracks seemed to lose the deep grove so didn’t quite pull off the strong start of the album.

That said, over all the album was a great listen, even when I started to feel the tracks were starting to drag, it was only a minor part of the music and it would get back on target really quickly.

This CD is definitely worth listening to, I would definitely recommend it to any D&B fan.

This highly polished album was a big change from what I am normally used to and I found it very refreshing. The album as a whole had a very polished sound and had a very even flow.
