Geoff answered the following questions for muzic.net.nz:
What will your next release be?
In the very near future Iíll be releasing my second music video, for my single 'Implications' (http://soundcloud.com/geoffong/implications). Iím super excited about this video Ė we had a big group of about 50 dancers come along and do a humungomassive choreographed dance number in a supermarket for the finale! The release show is going to be at Zeal West, in
How do you come up with your lyrics?
I guess I write the same way most people do Ė from experience! If thereís something on my mind, I find the best way to get it out is to write a song about it. 99% of the time, the thing on my mind when Iím writing a song is a girl! I just hope the girls I write the songs about donít know that the songs are about them! I have a feeling they might, thoughÖ Awkward.
Who would you most like to support live?
Taylor Swift, no question. This IS going to happen! Haha
How do you believe you fit into the NZ music industry?
I feel like Iím still finding my feet in the industry. At the moment Iím really just trying everything to see where I fit in Ė Iíve been involved in everything from jazz orchestras to hardcore bands to session work to theatre to glee clubs! However, I definitely think that everything I do helps me to discover who I want to be and where I want to go as a musician.
What can you never leave home without?
My iPod, my headphones, and a jaunty sense of optimism that today is going to be a good day.
How would you describe your music?
Feel-good pop! The stuff Iím writing currently has a lot of soul and R&B influence, but previously (including my debut EP, ĎPicturesí) my songs had much more of a folk/country sound. Generally I just want my music to make people feel happy!
What is the best part of being a musician?
Being able to brighten up peopleís days with music! Itís an amazing gift to be able to play music, and getting the chance to share it is even better.
How do you keep in contact with your fans?
I use my Facebook page a lot (Iím also starting to learn about TwitterÖ then Iíll move on to Tumblr, and next, THE WORLD!) and I like to post about stuff which I think people can relate to, as opposed to just telling people to come to my next show. I also like to post demos and snippets of songs Iím working on, to get people interested in my next release. I think it definitely helps engage with people when they can comment and discuss things on your posts, as opposed to just getting info about a gig or event.
What rumour would you like to start about yourself?
Something linking myself and Taylor Swift, preferably romantically...
