Slave Cadaver Newsletter Interview

12 Sep 2008 // An interview by Shade
Thanks to Jared and Eli for answering these questions:

What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

Jared: We've still yet to play it! Really for us if we get offered any other international supports they'll never top Carcass! They're basically the reason we started a band...

Eli: Other than that Christchurch was the most brutal. Awesome crowd and reception, got put up in a hotel and was a mean lineup!

Jared: The first Nightmare Before Christmas party at our old pad in Kilbirnie was one of the best too... Eli smashed his face into the headstock of the bass guitar and opened a huge gash above his eye during the first song! When we finished the set he was completely covered in blood! Think he'd been flicking it all over the front row...

Eli: Another worth mention was a party on Vivian Street when our old guitarist Dave took other peoples medication and fell into the drums at the end of the set, still playing!

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Eli: The Transmission Room is our new favourite venue!

Jared: Every show we've done at Basement Bar in New Plymouth has been cool, Valve locally of course... The Adelaide in Newtown is a great bar too. You can still get jugs there! Theres not a lot of good bars in NZ though unfortunatley.

What can we expect to see from Slave Cadaver over the next year?

Eli: Another album and more high profile performances.... no more shit gigs! Less Count Daveula...

Jared: A couple of weekends after Carcass a CD release with Metal Tower at Valve. Defnitley less relentless gigging! Takes its toll after a while.
What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

Eli: Some of our favourites to gig with are Wrath, Necroternal, Metal Tower, Human, Backyard Burial, Destitude... for obvious reasons.

Jared: Theres plenty of good metal bands in NZ... it's good to see bands like Dawn Of Azazel doing well internationally too, they're leading the way for the rest of us.

If you could, what rumour would you start about yourselves?

Eli: Theres rumours about me all the time... most of the time it's true! I don't need to start any!

Jared: There was actually a rumour a couple years back that one of us had died! Eventually I found out it was actually the bassist from Ghost Train who'd died after a show.

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Eli: Play whatever you like, just don't fuck with us!

Jared: Go hard and keep at it. I think we're proof that hard work pays off eventually

About Slave Cadaver

Conceived in a concrete garage/pit of dispair in Wellington, New Zealand in early 2003 when Jared (drums) and Eli (vocals) started jamming some Carcass with Viv (guitar). Guy joined on bass shortly after and the band started rehearsing and gigging as a Carcass covers act.

In March 2004 Dave Cadaver jumped on second guitar and Guy left to join Damned Age. The band started working on originals and continued gigging throughout the year playing "An Audience with the Devil" metal fest in Auckland in May enlisting Jason from Backyard Burial to fill in on bass.

Guy returned later in the year and the band recorded a 4 track demo EP "Seething Innards". Viv left in early 2005 and after a few months of inactivity continued as a 4-piece.
