5th Threat Newsletter Interview

03 Aug 2008 // An interview by Shade
Thanks to Rahhpz for these answers:

What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

It would be a toss up between opening for The Bouncing Souls or The UK Subs. But I'd have to say our 8 Killer Years show, as it was more personal and gathered a huge amount of support from the people who have come into contact with the 5th Threat sound and crew over the years. Needless to say the show was wild.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Soundwise we would have to roll with The Kings Arms or Thirsty Dog as their set ups are so good. Thirsty Dog is a lot more intimate compared to The Kings Arms but the craziness factor has got to go to the PR Bar. It's so small and things always seem to be on the edge of chaos, with crowds surging forward onto the stage and people spilling out on to the streets. It's always fun there.

What can we expect to see from 5th Threat over the next year?

We're headed on a NZ tour in August with Not OK, This tour is going to be RAD as hell!! After the tour we will be releasing our first video in October... We've been beating on a shit load of new tracks for a while now, so we will be hitting the studio next year followed by an Australian tour which is in the pipe works.

What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

House of Capricorn. These guys have got so much soul. its so primeval and hypnotic you cant just listen to them... you have to experience it.

If you could, what rumour would you start about 5th Threat?

Truth is the name came about in response to a school room being blown to bits and a list of likely culprits, a year later there was the great fire which destoryed a library.

We were raised by wolves until the tender age of ten and we are actually a rare breed of monsters.

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Too many people quit before their true potentential is realised. I've seen many of what I considered to be good bands, with huge potential, crumble before they became great because of this, you have to endure man.

About 5th Threat

5th THREAT are a heavy-hitting, punk-rock, outfit hailing from South Auckland NZ. Telling tales of triumph, loss and life whilst remaining up-beat. Because, as we all know, what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger and 5th Threat are strong indeed.

Developing their unique sound around vocal melody, grinding guitars and bouncing bass lines, these boys aim to deliver and they do. You will find examples of this littered throughout their EP 'Threat or Death'. Known to transcend genres, 5th Threat’s music has been called ear candy, as once heard their songs are damn hard to shake.

In late 2007 the guys struck back harder and more determined than ever releasing their eagerly awaited debut. Threat or Death received a 4 star review from NZ magazine Real Groove (Jan 2008) which hailed the song 'Suzan' as
