Waxplanet Newsletter Interview

14 Apr 2008 // An interview by Shade
What is the best gig/event you have ever performed at, and why?

Dylan: Concord Dawn at Bar Xcel in Timaru, because it was packed with Campaigners, sound complaints for miles and I got to MC with Tiki.
Ben: Bass Pioneers gig that we hosted in Timaru, because we got to play with a legend in the drum n bass industry, A-Sides, from the Metalheadz crew in the UK.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Dylan: Phatclub - Nelson
Ben: The Phat!! Inangahua - West Coast

What can we expect to see from Waxplanet over the next year?

Ben and Dylan: A whole new live set and a new direction.

What other NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

Dylan: Sandman, because he's got masterpiece tracks galore and keeps it underground.
Ben: Module, because I really like his liquid beats, he's what New Zealand drum and bass about and pretty much all New Zealand music in general, it's all pretty world class stuff.

If you could, what rumour would you start about yourselves?

Dylan: That Waxplanet is going to massacre the crowd at our next gig.......(laughs)
Ben: That we have the meanest, bassiest live show in NZ.

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Dylan: Keep making sick tunes, keep breaking the rules dont be afraid to scare your audience.....
Ben: Keep at it, keep goin and never give up on something you love to do!

About Waxplanet

WAXROLA - A Journey Of Sound
With the sparse and rugged hand made sound of blues and early rock the roots of my musical journey were laid. Years of experimental piano paved the way for a original sound as my exposure to hip hop in the late 1980's grew into a lifestyle revolving around the search for new musical ideas.

The electronic production and the use of samples grabbed my attention, particularly when the WuTang Clan burst onto the scene in the mid 90's. This was a major influence on the way I do music, looking for the mean and nasty while continuing to progress dynamically.
