Ominous Youth - muzic.net.nz Newsletter

29 Nov 2005 // An interview by Kraven
Which NZ artist/band do you think will be a huge international success one day?
We all think that 'The Rabble' will be a huge international success because although their music is pretty hardcore punk, it has melodic choruses and verses. Their songs are catchy and the members are really nice people!

Who would you most like to tour with?

Our Favourite band is Green Day and we would really love to tour with them one day. Although Jess and Karina recently met Simple Plan and they seem like lovely guys so we think that they would be pretty funny to tour with aswell!

What is your most embarrassing concert moment?

I think for all of us it was probably at the Heats of the Rockquest this year. It was our very first time performing to an audience and as much as we enjoyed it at the time, we looked at the video afterwards and we sounded terrible. Not to mention Karina messing up the guitaring and then Jess laughing at her!

What are you planning on doing during the next year?

Well the band is moving schools next year for the benefit of the music side of things. We will get an E.P recorded there as the musical facilities are a lot better than the school at which we attend now. We hope to have a few fans at Kamo High School because it is more music orientated.

How did you come up with the name Ominous Youth?

Well Jess, the Drummer, had been going through the dictionary that day and Ominous kind of sprung out and sounded cool. Then we just added Youth on the end and it just sounded great! Our current music teacher wants to change our name to Omni-Youth or something because he thinks that Ominous Youth is portraying a bad image for the school!

What is in your CD collection at home?

All the Green Day C-Ds, Alkaline Trio, Good Charlotte, Evanescence, Seether, A.F.I, Anti-Flag, The Casualties, NOFX, Rancid, The Rabble, Mission Gizzard, Blink 182, Capital Tradgedy, Good Riddance, Slipknot, Murderdolls, Rammstein, Velvet Revolver, Killswitch Engage, Ramones, System of a down, Opeth, Miyavi, Seo Taiji, Nirvana, Nickleback, Pink Floyd, Powerman 5000, Rise Against, Shihad, Sum 41, The Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Used, Tiger Army, The Exploited...Many Many More

What advice would you give other budding musicians/bands?

"Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't make it...we have been told that soo many times and although we haven't made it yet, we are determined to get there. Also, if you love music then keep at it. We have all been told by our family to get 'real jobs' but we aren't going to listen to them and we are going to keep doing what we love doing...making music!! Just do what you want and don't let anyone tell you what to do!!"
