Diefenbacker Newsletter Interview

13 Nov 2005 // An interview by Shade
Which NZ artist/band do you think will be a huge international success one day?

Redmore

Who would you most like to tour with?

The Subways

What is your most embarrassing concert moment?

Was playing a festival in the UK a few years ago on a really hot day... got pretty sweaty up there and ended up electrocuting myself!

What are you planning on doing during the next year?

Releasing a single and video in November to precede an ep release early next year. Hopefully touring NZ in summer but will be doing plenty of other shows before then.

How did you come up with the name Diefenbacker?

It's the name of the white dog in the show "Due South" .... I think he was named after a former Canadian prime minister (John Diefenbaker).

What is in your CD collection at home?

My home collections pretty big but in my car at the moment are: The Subways - Young For Eternity, Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger, Pluto - Pipeline Under the Ocean, Razorlight - Up All Night, Bloc Party - Silent Alarm, Arcade Fire - Funeral

What advice would you give other budding musicians/bands?

Enjoy it and stick with it.

About Diefenbacker

Diefenbacker is the product of a studio-based project Jooles was working on and the insistence of other people to play live. In collaboration with various artists, Diefenbacker was formed in 2005, playing a cultured mix of deep beats and heavy alternative rock.

Diefenbacker is the product of a studio-based project Jooles was working on and the insistence of other people to play live. In collaboration with various artists, Diefenbacker was formed in 2005, playing a cultured mix of deep beats and heavy alternative rock.

Coupled with Jooles' vocal style, which has often been likened to Radiohead's Thom Yorke, it makes for some menacing live performances, with big beat electronica vying for ascendancy over crunching power chords and solid bass work.
